My name is Roger Darkesworde...

... and I’m a PC in a Dungeons and Dragons game. I wasn’t always; for most of my life I was a free man. Now I don't know how much longer I'll live with this madman controlling me. I'm assembling my journal entries so there's some record of my life and death. If anyone finds this please get it back to my parents in Farmington.

Mom, Dad, I’m sorry I never came back.

Contest - New Hint!

Alright everybody, I promised a new hint would come out today. For those of you just here for the story, scroll down a wee bit and you'll see the newest entry (a long one, in my opinion). For those of you just now tuning in, we have a contest on here at RogerDS. It goes a little something like this:

The Question: What are the races, classes, and levels of the four main characters of RogerDS? (That's Roger, Grens, Tallow, and Gunther.)

The prize: YOU get to appear as an NPC in a future episode of RogerDS. Yes, you can pick which side you're on if any.

Hint #1 (the one you already have): Everything in the party follows the core 3.5 edition D&D rules, except for a single "house rule".

Hint #2 (the new one!): The above-mentioned house rule has to do with how much wealth/gear the characters have.

I hope this helps those of you who have been struggling with the question. A reading of the last few entries may help as well...

Good luck!

So I see I was on the right track with the lack of magic equipment. I'm going to go under the assumption that everyone is single class, even if I could see Roger having just got something along the lines of Fighter/3 Ranger/2 (2 Weapon Fighting with nature [and tracking] experience... would be reasonable).

Roger Human Fighter/5
Gunther Human Fighter/5
Tallow Halfling Rogue/5
Gren Human Cleric/5

And just my look at the core classes (- prestige)
Barbarian - Nothing that looked like a rage has been seen, at least in my opinion.
Bard - No performances/ Bardic Music
Cleric - Gren can heal(not spontaneously it seems) and create undead.
Druid - Gren seems to be the only caster, and no one has overly nature loving and no animal companion.
Fighter - Roger and Gunther are both Martial types, and though different, fighter feats can and do lead to incredibly different fighters.
Monk - Everyone in the party has weapons or magic. No can do.
Paladin - Gren Jr. couldn't have survived more than a couple rounds if anyone was a Paly.
Ranger - Roger could possibly be if there's multiclassing. If not, then he would only be Ranger/2 due to him just getting a second sword (Combat Style is chosen at level 2) and Gren has to be Level 5 to cast Animate Dead (Unless he has a scroll, but that would require extra risk and 625 GP is an awful lot to risk) But all in all I don't think there's a Ranger in the group.
Rogue - Tallow seems to fit the build pretty well. Smart alack, bow wielding hafling. Screams Rogue.
Sorcerers & Wizards - Gren is only caster and can cast healing spells.

Okay....

*drum roll please*

Your guess is incorrect!

On two counts. I can't say more than that. Sorry, but keep on going!

(I will add that your observations on the core classes are quite astute.)

OK, well I will take a wild guess and assume my assumption of only a single class is wrong (Count 1).

Roger Human Fighter/3 Ranger/2 (Count 2)
Gunther Human Fighter/5
Tallow Halfling Rogue/5
Gren Human Cleric/5

Roger does have ranks in heal... and tracking is related to survival. My guess(Assuming I'm correct) would be he started off as a Ranger, took 3 levels of fighter, and then just recently got his second level of Ranger.

If I'm wrong with this, then apparently I need another hint or to reread the journal analyzing every sentence. I think I'll wait for the next hint.
